10 Ways to Protect Yourself from Demonic Attacks

Many demonic entities search for a source to attach themselves to gain nourishment. DemonsOpens in a new tab. love to feed off negative energies such as anger, anxiety, and sadness. They will often look for a vulnerable individual to attack and feed off their negative emotions. Someone who thinks that they suffer from demonic attacks may feel lonely and vulnerable, but they can take action to protect themselves and fight back. Let’s look at the different ways to protect yourself from demon attacks.

#1: Salt

Many ghost hunters use rings of salt to repel demons and evil spirits that seek to harm them. Across a multitude of religions, salt holds a strong meaning. One example of this is known as the Blessing of Salt in the Catholic faith meant to keep demons away. Some Christian churches still use salt in exorcisms.

In Judaism, the Jews would keep salt in their pockets and all four corners of the room to keep the demons away. They even use it in Buddhism and Shintoism to sanctify a place.

One of the reasons that salt may have this association comes from before the invention of the microscope in 1590. Before that time, people associated rot with demonic entities. Since salt acts as a preservative, they see it as stopping demons. Even today, people report salt as stopping demonic attacks. Whatever the reasons behind it, it appears to work.

#2: Cleanse the Home

Especially if you believe that demons inhabit your home, you may want to take action to cleanse it from their presence. You can practice several cleansing rituals. For example, one ritual has you envisioning an enveloping white light throughout your space.

You could also burn sage to clear demons. Open all the windows and doors. Light the sage and let it burn for 30 seconds and add the smoke to all corners of the room. If you live in an apartment that doesn’t allow smoke, you may try white sage essential oil.

Burning sage shows you one of the oldest methods of cleansing a room, person, or group of people. The practice stretches back thousands of years and was used across cultures, including Native American cultures where they would burn white sage in a ritual known as the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing

Sage releases negative ions when burned, which has a natural way of making people feel more positive. Since demons feed off negativity, it leaves them with nowhere to go. Researchers have looked into the burning of sage and found that it removes up to 94 percent of bacteria from the air, but it requires burning for one hour to achieve this effect.

In 2016, the University of Mississippi conducted a study that learned how white sage can elevate certain receptors in the brain for elevated mood. They found how it can reduce stress and even pain. Many report how a room feels better after burning sage. It doesn’t have to be white sage.

If you don’t like the scent of sage, you can also use Palo Santo. It is dried wood that when burned gives off smoke that dispels negative energies – but lets the positive and light ones stay.

#3: Say a Prayer

Many spiritual warfare prayers exist to stop demons from attacking people. Psalm 91, for example, was included in the Dead Sea Scrolls as one of the four Psalms meant to ward off evil spirits. No one knows the other three. You can find prayers like this in all religions since demonic attacks happen across cultures. In Hinduism, they use mantras to protect them from demons. For example, the Bagalamukhi Mantra is thought to conquer internal demons. Bagalamukhi is considered the banisher of demons.

There are countless prayers to protect yourself from a demonic attack. You have a couple of guidelines that you may want to follow since demons don’t like you trying to free yourself of them. They may grow more abusive.

Some of the guidelines include:

  • Ask the prayer to show you what is going on.
  • Persevere in the prayer until you feel victory.
  • Keep watch and continue praying—even after it leaves.
  • Beware of what pops up in your mind and focus on the positive.

I say to keep watch because, in many cases, a demon will return after it leaves. It may choose to attack you in the same way, but it could attack you from a new angle. For that reason, those dealing with demonic attacks should keep praying even after the demon leaves to keep it from returning.

One exorcist in Dublin said that demons can be extraordinarily difficult to get rid of once they have taken up a home with a person. Even after they remove them, they may return multiple times and come back with more demons the next time.

#4: Dealing with Severe Nightmares?

Nightmares show us another example of a possible demonic attack. Important to note that it doesn’t always mean that, but it can be one of the signs. Severe nightmares can hurt your psyche and leave you afraid to fall asleep again.

You can do a couple of things to prevent nightmares caused by demons. For example, you might smudge the space with sage before bed. You might turn on spiritual music before bed to stop the nightmares.

You may keep a strict diet since certain foods have a reputation for causing nightmares like:

  • Spicy foods
  • Pizzas
  • Cake
  • Cookies
  • Cheese
  • Alcohol
  • Chips
  • Chocolate
  • Pasta
  • Bread
  • French fries
  • Chicken tenders
  • Yogurt

We highlight this to cover all the possible bases for what may cause your nightmares. You may sleep with the lights on if it leaves you in a better psychological condition.

#5: Light White Candles

Burning a white candle can clear the home of negative energies much like burning sage. After you light the candles, focus on positive things like gratitude and happiness. You may want to keep up with this practice for a few weeks to make the home feel more positive and remove the demon from your space. As I said before, sometimes they don’t go away right away. It takes time.

Candle rituals exist in every religion and culture. No one knows why it works, whether the dance of the flame or the peaceful tranquility that it puts your mind in does the trick. You want to burn the candles in all corners of the home and let them burn to remove the demon. Keep in mind that you may need to do this multiple times.

The biggest problem when a demon leaves is that they often have nowhere to go. They may leave but will group up with other demonic entities and return stronger. White is a shielding color that acts to protect you. Like with sage, some say that you may want to open a window when doing this to let the demons out. I don’t know if this works, but it can’t hurt.

#6: Resolution in Positivity

Resolve to stay positive because it will keep the demons from having something to feed off. Demons love to attach themselves to those with negative energy. If you keep your vibes as high as possible, you eliminate a feeding source. This practice may not work for everyone, but you may find it worthwhile.

Some of the practices that you might undertake to feel more positive include:

  • Practice positive self talk
  • Keep a gratitude list
  • Stay open to positive humor
  • Create a positive mantra
  • Learn from negative thoughts
  • Stay mindful of where your thoughts roam
  • Seek activities that bring you joy

Choose to laugh and love more than you normally would. While this may seem difficult at times, demons can’t abide by these things since they seek to make you as miserable as possible. They wish to destroy all the good in the world.

#7: Conduct a Ghost Hunting Investigation

Figure out why the ghost chose to take up residence in your home or chooses to haunt you. You might, for example, speak with your local paranormal ghost investigation group to perform an investigation. Most demons will have a reason for targeting you. They may see you as vulnerable. Since demons seek to destroy all that is good, they often go after those that they can target or who opened a pathway to them.

A ghost-hunting investigation may not bring you all the clues, but it can give you an idea about why they chose to target you. For example, maybe you encountered them with the Ouija board, which is sometimes like a portal or opening. Another example is someone into occult practices, which can lead to demonic attachments.

Many times, a ghost-hunting investigation will seek to figure out the ghost’s name and why it’s there. They will look at its intentions.

Important to note: You want to hire a professional ghost-hunting group to conduct the investigation. With all of the ways to protect yourself, you must have some idea of what you’re doing, or it can make the situation worse. Demons will rarely leave willingly. They seek to remain until they have destroyed the person fully.

#8: Balance the Energy

Some say that you can place quartz crystals near the windows to help draw in clean energy and balance the room of its negative energies. This practice can prevent demons from entering the home, but it may not stop them if already inside. They can serve as more protection as well.

If you want to learn more about crystals for spirit communications, you can read more in the article below. The article is foremost about pendulums, but there is great information about protective crystals as well.

The Best Crystals for Pendulums [A psychic weighs in]

Other common crystals for protection are tourmaline, smokey quartz, and obsidian. The crystals can be placed to lift negative vibrations. They will never work on their own, though, as the demonic has such power. You need to combine the crystal with other rites on the list as well.

#9: Beware of Secondhand Items with Demonic Attachments

Many don’t think of this one, but on rare occasions, secondhand items will have a demonic attachment that can start causing demon attacks. Everything has an energy about it. You often get the vibe that the object has a curse because it will make you uneasy. Don’t touch or hold an object like this since the energy can latch itself onto you.

An object might be haunted because it has a demonic attachment to it, or it may have been a regular human attached who once loved that item. For those who would like to learn more about haunted objects, check out the video below:

Having a haunted object can be one of the ways that a demon can attack you, and when you get rid of that object, it can stop the attacks. Luckily, this is a relatively easy one to stop if this is the cause. Simply remove the cursed object from the home.

If you want to learn more about possessed possessions, I have written an article on the subject.

#10: Seek an Exorcist

In many cases, you may need to seek professional help from an exorcist because nothing else works. The demon attacks can worsen in many cases because they want to hang on. Many exorcists say that demons often don’t leave willingly, and even after you get rid of them, it can be hard to remove them completely because they come back.

Believe it or not, in our society today, exorcisms have been on the rise. In some cases, you may only require a minor exorcism, but you have cases where the person is deeply in the grips of demonic possession. Trying to free yourself from a powerful entity like that requires someone knowledgeable in demonology and who knows how to remove the demons from your life.

You want someone who thoroughly understands how to perform an exorcism since this will increase your chances of getting rid of the demonic attacks. Especially when you feel like your well-being has come into question, it may be time to seek out an exorcist. You can try many of the things above to see if it works, but you may need to look into speaking with a professional. Dealing with demons is no joke.

Final Thoughts

Here, I have outlined the many ways that you can protect yourself from demon attacks. Unfortunately, it can be a difficult thing to stop once it starts. However, you do have things that you can do to protect yourself from demonic attacks. While rare, demonic possession does happen, and in a world that believes totally in practical science, it can be difficult to find the answers.
